Projects:2023 Channel Ideas and Goals

This is a pretty brief page that is just a high level look at somet of the things I (NCommander) may want to try to do this coming year. Things We Want To Do in 2023:

Potential Video Ideas

• OS/2 Documentary of some sort
• Rogue-O-Matic stream in SIMH
  • Run it on InfoWindow afterwards
• POSIX video follow-ups
  • NeXT on WIndows NT use of Cygwin
  • Services for UNIX (if possible on Itanium)
  • OS/2 Subsystem (inc. Presentation Manager)
• Cray/UNICOS stream
• Banyan VINES Research Stream
• More archiving/preservation streams
• Much more "less announced/less planned" streams
• I need some sorta of "adapter server" that can handle both IPX/Netware and more modern protocols
  • Maybe try and revive Ubuntu IPX support?
  • If FreeBSD supports IPX, worth looking into
• Research, if not outright do porting modern Linux to an old architecture
  • SPARC64, or DEC Alpha
    • i.e. port Ubuntu 22.04 to the above
    • Something with classic Mac (Copland, A/UX, ... etc?)
    • Also try and get MAE to work (maybe on SPARCStation)
• Documenting Network UNIX attempted resurrection (35 hours of video)
  • Talks about emulating Unix v6 and more, including how these machines worked
  • This was going to be the Season 2 opener
  • I need to check the quality of the footage
• Contact vendors like VSI or IBM to try and get development access
• Mainframe Stream (Herculues MVS/390)
• Finish my 2 hour year modded Minecraft Dungeons Dragons, and Space Shuttles world
• NetHack Documentary
  • That means getting an ascension
• SoylentNews Stuff
  • Docker containerization/revamp
  • Fix journals
  • Preservation Plan
• Itanium documentary (... sorta)
• Get the SGI Indy going (and personal history with IRIX)

Specific YouTube Goals

• 50k before the end of 2023
• If possible, stream weekly, or biweekly
  • Split streams into the following
  • Preservation/Research
    • N's Life (i.e., gaming, more)
    • Just for fun Cursed Computing
• The main objective for the channel in this year, is to inspire other people to get involved with preservation efforts.
• Jan 2nd - DDSS Stream if possible ...
• Figure out possibility of a Kickstarter?
  • To do larger video projects
  • Acquire specific hardware

Charity Streams

• Probably 2x year, one in summer, one in winter

Things I Need To Soon

• Community CoC + Rules Revamp (Do January 1st)

Things Needed to port Linux

• Build management server (wanna-build/build)
• Archive server (dak/mini-dak)
• Builders (sbuild)
• GCC Port
• Minimal bootstrap
• Ideally package archive to use for "easier" porting

Things That Went Well

• Charity Streams raised over 13k in 2022, which was a massive win
• AIX video set the bar very high as far as the level of content goes
• Multiple videos got over 100k
• Successfully bike toured on Restless Yankee
• Found a new direction

Things That Sucked

• The canceled event
• General listlessness with the state of the channel
• Lots of personal stuff I'm not going to list here ...
